Captain of the Ussalry!

 

I felt the need to draw Onepu and what she would look like. (Yes, she :3) Also like, she and Nuparu just look so cute, I had to squish them together~ Also lets make ladies with sideburns normalized uvu

Onepu is probably one of the tallest Matoran on the island, she's still very proud of herself, close with Nuparu and Taipu - though she considers Taipu almost like a little brother (along with having a few friendly scuffles with him). She's like the older sister that sucks up to Mom and Dad at every possible moment, but she's still cool enough to beat up school bullies and hang out with you no matter what.

I imagine she and Nuparu got closer by just having plenty of interactions, one being Whenua's right hand and the other maintaining the mechanics of the whole village - they had to interact at one point. Nuparu getting smitten with Onepu's good looks and thinking she's a "knight in shining armor" type of person. Though getting closer, Onepu started to show off a much more laid back side to her and Nuparu took to that immediately, amused by her vanity and her close relationship with Taipu. Nuparu makes sure Onepu is reminded to have a bit of modesty every now and then, keeping her grounded and being honest with her.

Onepu loves Nuparu's smarts and is drawn to her work. She could watch Nuparu tinker all day if she could. Any chance she's also hurt, she comes to Nuparu to mend her wounds, coming in with dramatics and tales of how a beast nearly swallowed her whole - Nuparu sees through that though but plays along with her for a minute until she worms the real story about how Onepu was sleeping on a boulder and fell while she wasn't aware.

My Depthcore Stuff

So aside from having a deep love for Bionicle, that love is a part of an even bigger love I have for the decade I grew up in that basically stretched from the 90s to the 2000s. It can easily be described as Y2K, at least from my view point as a person who is too young to be a millennial and too old to be Gen Z.

Anyways, there is this style of art called Depthcore (and pardon me if I'm not labelling this art as the right genre) but it's basically a mix of primitive 2d and 3d works of vectorized shapes that glow or 3d metallic tubes - the point is, they look futuristic and/or organic in the way they stretch around the picture. If you search up "metalheart" on google, that is also a good starting point for this genre of art.

I wanted to share some pieces I made in an attempt to emulate this style. So please enjoy these few pieces.

I haven't made this art style in a while, though I do really want to come back to it sometime. Who knows when inspiration will hit, but thanks for taking a quick look at these pieces!

Ta-Korans

 

I felt motivated to draw some humanized Bionicle designs for the 2001 wave again. I'm getting so sidetracked from finishing 2005 lol.

But I am biased, I think my favorite years aesthetically from Bionicle were '01 through '03. Like all and all, the first thing I think of when Bionicle is mentioned are those same biomechanical bots roaming a lush island. The renders to me held a strange air to them as well to me. Maybe it was the limited 3D tech at the time, but "mystical" couldn't have been a better descriptor to the images. 

Anyways, got side tracked there, I wanted to draw Tahu, Vakama, and Jaller, more so how they compare height wise. In my mind, the Turaga and Matoran share similar heights if not a little varied here and there while the Toa are visibly taller - though the height gap has been lessened between all three. Also for funsies, the Toa are still like around 7 feet tall (I always loved that fact about Bionicle). 

Also just some fun add-ins to their designs I've always been giddy about is still including their heart lights. I still imagine their internal skeletal systems to be mechanical so the heart light is an attachment that extends from their skeletal frame. Some cover it, some have it out in the open proudly. And you might notice Ta-Korans having darker colored fingernails than others. I wanted that to be like a build up of volcanic soot and rock over the years - don't know if I'll keep this design choice, but it makes them look a lil more interesting to me.

I also wanted Ta-Korans to have some sort of piercing on their bodies. I've done mostly ears so far, but I think they would pierce any part of their body.

Me 'n Lego

I've mentioned before that my brother was the sole reason I have an interest in Bionicle to this day. Although, this also goes the same for other LEGO lines, but I never really had the chance to buy those LEGO sets for myself. (I was born a girl, so the folks only really gave me girl stuff. Not that I had a problem with that, but I was never supplied anything "just for boys" until I was a little older.) I want to share some of the LEGO series I've dabbled in for fun, just so you guys get to know that part about me a 'lil more~

Do you know about Decome?

 So recently, I've developed a tiny obsession with these little gif emoticons called "Decome." It's a Japanese term derived from "deco-mail" or "decoration mail" and they are little cute gifs that you can send through email and mobile phones (though it seems these kinds I'm about to share are mostly exclusive to Docomo phones as far as I know) Although I've also seen these referred to as "Favicons."

THEY'RE SO CUTE THOUGH!! If you want to see more, I've gotten these from this Neocities site. I don't know about you, but if I had these instead of emojis, I would use these ALL the time. I can only go so far looking at these: 🤣😮😝😭

There are seemingly a lot and maybe plenty more that aren't archived. But I wish I could use these everywhere. My phone, my emails, chat messages, you name it. And I know it's easy to put them into Discord, but Discord can only put so many in which is a bummer to me. 

I've also been debating lately about buying a flip phone of my own. It would be an extra expense of course, but sometimes I'm tired of carrying a flat block in my pants that's way too big to fit in my pocket. If I could have something simple for just calls and texting, I think I would be happy and not so distracted. As of now though, I do feel too attached to my smartphone. It plays music, games, connects to social media... it's almost sad thinking about how reliant I am with it when I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't be.

Not saying that smart phones are bad in any shape or form, these are amazing pieces of technology. But thinking about it now, I do miss the simplicity of a flip phone, and I only had one for just a few years before I gave in and grabbed a smart phone when I was a kid. 

I digressed there, but my point is, I kind of wish Decome would become more of a thing. Personalized cute gifs like these just to place here and there~ Gosh, browsing Neocities and seeing all these amazing buttons, dividers, frames, blinkies, etc. It's been bringing me back, wishing websites could look fun again. I don't know, it's very jaded of me to say, but I'm glad to see people still carry on the old internet spirit~
